PUSS
Puss came into the World on 8 September 1997. He was purchased from a pet store in Armley and I was told at point of purchase that he was originally from the Gildersome area in Leeds WY. As is normal practice with the way in which I name new pets, I waited until Puss did something out of the orfinary and hence that would determine his name. On this occasion however, Puss did nothing, and as per normal, he kept getting called Puss and hence the name stuck. In retrospect, he should really have been called "Bright Eyes" because that is one of his features. Puss was the first cat to live his entire life at F***** Avenue, and he joined Robert, FiFi and later Jerry, all from Otley Road. He is similar to Cookie in some respects and is very gentle but will not allow cuddles. When he wants attention (which is considerable), he puts out his paw and touches you on the face (very gently). He is the oldest cat to be living at my current address.
Puss died on 19 Feb 2010 at 2220 at an animal hospital in Felling, Tyne & Wear after what was probably an undiagnosed long illness. I made the decision to put my dear friend to sleep. Puss was diagnosed with large tumors the size of 3.5 small oranges in his gut, fixed and not moveable, attached probably to his liver. He was given a 20% chance of surviving an operation to remove the tumors. Puss would have been 13 in September of the year that he died. He had been taken to my mothers home to be looked after while I went to America. It was mean't to be a holiday for Puss, away from the other cats at F*** Avenue, and he was well treated, pampered and given lots of Love by my mother during his six day stay before his death. Even moments before being put to sleep, with great difficulty, he reared himself up and turned his rear end to me, which is something he always used to do when he was stroked and given affection.
Puss had some other peculiar traits, the greatest of these being that of a loving cat, where he would sit in or on a chair, and stare at me for hours while I was watching TV. He would also come to my computer chair and demand attention and strokes (which he always received), and on some occasions, when touching my arm with his paw, he would unintentially scratch to get your attention. He was also capable of making you laugh when he would walk on two legs (looking like and old man - and very funny). His greatest "trick" however, was his ability to attract your attention by outstretching his paw and gently touching either your arm or face.
Notes to write up :
1. Up on hind legs.
2. Used to sit on the top of my chair for hours while I worked (RM) with me sitting in same chair (balance issue)
3. Would sit and stare at me for hours while I watched TV.
4. Would turn and but his rear in your face when he was stroked.
5. He grasped my hand (when in pain), with his paw before he died.
